I am a native Virginian, having grown up just sixty miles south of Charlottesville in the small town of Amherst, Virginia. I attended The College of William and Mary for college, where I met my husband and together we helped pioneer a lab where we studied H. pylori. From there we both entered the MD/PhD program at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, but only one of us came out with both degrees… my advisor took a position at a pharmaceutical company two years into my PhD work, and I chose not to start a new thesis. Instead, we started a family and I had almost two years of being mostly a stay-at-home mom.

I went through the couples match with my husband, Brent, who is a Plastic Surgery resident, and we were very excited to match here at UVA after interviewing all across the country. It is so nice to drive home every day and have the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains welcome me home! Charlottesville has been wonderful for our family, with tons of outdoor activities, walking/biking trails, parks, and even free water parks! The Downtown area is wonderful, with lots of great restaurants, shops, and a terrific kid’s museum. There are also several good dog parks in the area which we have frequented with our quite active golden retriever, Ginny. We bought a house in a nice subdivision less than ten minutes from the hospital, but there are also lots of places to rent within walking distance to the hospital as well.

I chose UVA because of the strength of the Family Medicine program here and the extent to which the program is embraced by other specialties here at the university. The residents that make up UVA Family Medicine are a fun, collegial group of individuals, and importantly are excellent clinicians. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions!
