Information Mastery and Evidence-Based Medicine II
Course Director: David Slawson, M.D.This course is designed to develop expertise in:
- Scanning the primary and secondary literature to identify relevant information.
- Critically appraising the relevant primary and secondary literature (determining validity and assigning appropriate Levels of Evidence or LOE ratings).
- Succinctly summarizing useful new information in a written format.
- Making appropriate clinical
recommendations based on the integration of new information with
established clinical practice.
Fellows will be expected to write several POEMs (Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters) suitable for publication and to teach an Information Mastery module to faculty and residents. In addition, fellows will be paired with a faculty member and co-author a STEPS analysis suitable for publication in the American Family Physician.
