The University of Virginia's Clinical Toxicology provides 24-hour consults to health care professionals on a wide range of conditions including:
- medication overdose
- drug interactions
- herbal toxicity
- envenomations
- occupational exposures
- environmental toxicity
All of the Center for Clinical Toxicology's physicians are board-certified or board-eligible in Medical Toxicology, and are recognized for their expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury from toxic exposure.
The consult service works in close collaboration with the other services of UVA to bring the highest quality of care to the poisoned patient. Thousands of patients have been managed by this service on site at UVA over the past decade, with numerous patients transferred to UVA by ground transport, helicopter, and fixed wing aircraft. Over 2,000 additional patients are managed off-site at other medical facilities through telephone consult or telemedicine.
