Chest Pain Center (CPC)
The Chest Pain Center is a 5
bed unit for patients with cardiovascular emergencies. The
experienced emergency staff provides rapid assessment and treatment to
individuals with heart attacks. They also provide a research tool
to study innovative techniques for evaluating and diagnosing acute
chest pain in the emergency setting. This CPC is the only one of
its kind in Central Virginia and has 12-lead electroncardiographic and
continuous ST-segment monitoring systems.
We staff the CPC with Emergency Medicine board-certified faculty physicians and specialized nurses with training in emergency cardiovascular care. Emergency Medicine and other rotating residents also provide care to these patients.
The Chest Pain Center provides the following services:
- 24 Hour Cardiology consultation
- Research projects and clinical process improvement initiatives
- Collaboration between the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Heart and Vascular Center
