The Department of Dentistry staff makes it a
priority to respond promptly to physician referrals, consultations.and
patient inquiries. Dental consultations are scheduled Monday-Thursday
afternoons.
Routine dental services are available M-F 8:00-4:30 from our professional dental staff. After clinic hours patients-of-record may contact UVa operators at 434.924.0000 to page our resident on-call for emergencies and information.
Patients with medical problems that are complicated by their dental condition should seek referral from their physician for dental evaluation.
Our Consultation Service...
The Department of Dentistry maintains an outpatient and inpatient consultation service. We attempt to provide timely and appropriate oral health care for these individuals and to prevent or reduce complications from dental infection. There is significant information in the literature to suggest that dental evaluation is an important adjunct to patients in certain disease categories. Dentists in the department evaluate patients undergoing transplant surgery, cancer surgery, immunosuppressive therapy or any disease process or treatment that predisposes individuals to susceptibility to oral disease or the sequelae of that disease. Priority is given to dental consultations where the concurrent medical management is dependent on the timely delivery of dental treatment. It is requested that medical information be provided through a written form which can be mailed or faxed to the department.
