UVa is also listed as one of the 30 leading teaching hospitals with cardiovascular fellowship programs. Cardiovascular care is provided through both the Heart Center and the Vascular Center, which serve more than 5,000 inpatients each year, giving our fellows a wide variety of patient cases for learning. Their multidisciplinary approach brings together specialists from cardiovascular medicine, pediatric cardiology, thoracic and vascular surgery, and interventional radiology who work together collaboratively. Fellows, residents, interns, and medical students are intimately involved with our attending physicians in providing innovative, preventative patient care as well as diagnostic and therapeutic services. To assist with the educational process, we provide significant learning and teaching opportunities, supporting all of our graduate and undergraduate medical trainees while they participate in cardiovascular inpatient and outpatient services. UVa also welcomes the participation of fellows, housestaff, and medical students in a variety of research projects in basic and translational research. Our medical research buildings are in very close proximity to our hospital for ease of daily collaboration. We have a core group of research nurses who facilitate many ongoing clinical trials in the imaging, interventional, and cardiac electrophysiology fields. Providing exceptional patient care, comprehensive education, and innovative research opportunities are the goals of the cardiovascular division. You are invited to take a tour of our website to learn how our ongoing programs support this mission. |
