Berry professorship a reality
The Department of Anesthesiology is pleased to announce that the Frederic A. Berry Professorship in Pediatric Anesthesiology is now a reality! One of only a few named chairs in the subspecialty of pediatric anesthesia, the professorship honors Fritz Berry's long association with the University of Virginia and his worldwide renown as a pediatric anesthesiologist and educator.
The fund to establish the Berry professorship was announced in 2005, at the Department's biennial symposium, in conjunction with Fritz' 70th birthday. Gifts have come from alumni, colleagues, patients, and friends of Fritz and Suzanne Berry. On November 16, 2010, the Board of Visitors made it official, announcing the establishment of the professorship. A reception honoring Dr. Berry was held in the Rotunda.
Although Fritz Berry has retired from active clinical service, he remains active with the department, attending conferences and teaching.
The Department of Anesthesiology hopes to name the first chair holder of the Frederic A. Berry Professorship in Pediatric Anesthesiology soon.
