Anesthesiology Welcomes New Faculty Members
The Department of Anesthesiology is pleased to welcome five new faculty members in this academic year.
| Katherine A. Black , M.D., (Katie) received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Nebraska. She entered the residency program in the Department of Anesthesiology in July, 2007. Upon her graduation in 2011, Dr. Black joined the faculty as an assistant professor. | |
| Amy E. Kipp, M.D. , completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia and then entered the University of Texas at Houston Medical School, earning her M.D. degree in 2007. She returned to Virginia to enter the residency program in Anesthesiology and graduated in 2011. Dr. Kipp joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in August. She plans to enter the Pain Medicine Fellowship program in 2012. | |

Marc A. Lotano, M.D., holds an undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University, a master’s in science from the University of Virginia, and an M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his Anesthesiology residency at MCV in 2010 and entered a Regional Anesthesiology Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Upon completion of his fellowship, he joined the Department of Anesthesiology as an Assistant Professor in August, 2011. Dr.Lotano is a member of the department’s Regional anesthesia group. |
| Van H. Nguyen, M.D., completed his undergraduate degree at Duke University and received an M.D. from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 2006. He went on to an Anesthesiology residency at Baylor University and returned to Virginia to take a position as a Clinical Instructor in Anesthesiology while completing a Regional Anesthesiology Fellowship. He was appointed to the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in July, 2011. Dr. Nguyen is a member of the department’s regional anesthesiology group. | |
| Karen E. Singh, M.D., earned an undergraduate degree from Purdue University and a medical degree from Indiana University before entering the University of Virginia Anesthesiology residency in 2006. Dr. Singh was chief resident during the 2009-2010 year. After graduation from the department’s residency program, Dr. Singh entered a Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic (Minnesota). She joined our faculty as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in July, 2011. Dr. Singh is a member of both the cardiac and the thoracic anesthesia groups. |
