All students receive a stipend (stipends are competitive with peer
institutions). Stipends for the 2015/16 academic year are $27,500
for students who have not yet passed their qualifying exam and $28,500
for students who have passed the exam, plus full tuition, health, and
dental insurance. Students who win competitive awards such as NIH
or NSF predoctoral fellowships or UVA Merit Fellowships are eligible to
receive a merit supplement of up to $1,000. The Immunology
Training Grant provides travel funds for students in the year they are
supported, and travel to scientific meetings is generally encouraged by
all mentors in the Program.
Students in the graduate programs are full members of the university
community, and have available to them the entire range of university
educational, entertainment, and recreational opportunities.
