It has been known for some time that immune cells and their signals can induce profound changes to neuronal physiology. The mechanisms of these neuro-immune interactions are unclear. As a post-doctoral fellow in the Kipnis lab, I am particularly interested in how immune cells can disintegrate neuronal circuits resulting in devastating behavioral changes in diseases such as autism. We use a variety of powerful techniques including mouse genetics, behavior, and imaging to address these complicated mechanisms.
