The University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association, reestablished in 1960, is an independent organization of approximately 8,000 members dedicated to service for the benefit of the School of Medicine and the University of Virginia. Its membership includes all medical school graduates, present and former housestaff of the University of Virginia Health System, Medical School faculty and students.

The University of Virginia Medical School Foundation, established in 1972, exists as the financial arm of the University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association.  Its mission is to receive, invest, manage and disburse funds for the express purpose of maintaining and constantly improving the state of excellence of the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
