Open invitation to faculty, staff and students to nominate faculty for the following awards:

 

All University Teaching Awards

Award: $2,000
Deadline: February 7, 2011
Purpose : Excellence in teaching is emphasized; research and service accomplishments are also considered.

Who is eligible? Full-time faculty appointment at any rank, tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure-track. Previous winners of an award administered by the Teaching Awards Committee within the last five years are ineligible for an Open Award.

 

Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award

Award: $10,000 and life membership in the Alumni Association
Deadline: February 7, 2011
Purpose: Recognizes outstanding teacher who demonstrated commitment to student success and contributed significantly to University life.

Who is eligible? A member of the U.Va. faculty for at least ten years. Previous winners of an award administered by the Teaching Awards Committee within the last five years are ineligible for an Open Award.

 

Alumni Board of Trustees Teaching Award

Award: $2,500 - one semester of research leave at full pay; $1,500 research award
Deadline: February 7, 2011
Purpose: Recognizes outstanding teacher.

Who is eligible? Full-time assistant professors, untenured faculty on tenure-track. Assistant professors are ineligible during the year they are under review for tenure.  Previous winners of an award administered by the Teaching Awards Committee within the last five years are ineligible for an Open Award.

 

Cavaliers’ Distinguished Teaching Professorship

Award: 2/9ths salary (two additional months plus fringes), together with the annual $2,000 research fund - award winners work with the Teaching Resource Center during the two-year period. Any winner who currently holds another chair is not eligible for the Cavaliers’ Distinguished Professorship research funds.
Deadline: February 7, 2011
Purpose: Two-year appointment in recognition of eminent scholars for outstanding and enduring excellence in the teaching of undergraduates

Who is eligible? Tenured, full-time faculty at the associate or full professor rank, who teach undergraduate courses.  Previous winners of an award administered by the Teaching Awards Committee within the last five years are ineligible for an Open Award.


Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards

Sponsored by TIAA-CREF/State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV)

Award: $5,000
Deadline: February 7, 2011
Purpose: The Commonwealth's highest honor for faculty at Virginia's colleges and universities recognizes a record that strongly reflects the mission of the institution and demonstrated excellence in teaching, research and service.

Who is eligible? (U.Va. may submit up to ten nominations). The Teaching Awards Committee will choose these nominees from among all faculty nominated for any teaching award.
