Due to decreased demand after 5pm, we are adjusting the hours of operation for the mobile help desk in front of the Health Sciences Library. It will close today at 5:00pm, and starting tomorrow it will be open daily from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Here is an updated list of the ways you can receive support from School of Medicine IT related to last week’s incident:

  • For support in person, please stop by the mobile help desk in front of the HSL from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
  • For support over the phone, please call Desktop Support at (434) 297-7223.
  • To open a work order related to this incident, please use SysAid or e-mail somit@virginia.edu.

UVA Completes Upgrades to IT Systems After Cyber Attack

The University of Virginia announced today (Aug. 16) that it has successfully completed a comprehensive system security upgrade in response to a cyber attack originating in China. The University took these actions to further enhance the security of data and information stored on University resources, and to aid in prevention of future cyber attacks. For School of Medicine Students, Faucuty and Staff:

Now that all University IT systems are back up and running, we encourage you to reset your ESERVICES passwords and test your access to systems according to the instructions sent out by ITS. If you encounter any problems, please consider the following options for School of Medicine IT support

  • A mobile help desk has been established in front of the Health Sciences Library to assist with issues related to this incident in person; it will be open from 8:00am to 8:00pm daily (including weekends) until further notice.
  • For support over the phone, please call Desktop Support at (434) 297-7223.
  • To open a work order related to this incident, please use SysAid or e-mail somit@virginia.edu.
  • HSTS login and email accounts were not affected; and, therefore, HSTS Passwords will not need to be reset as a response to this incident.

  • Student online testing welll be reseduled and coordinated by the Dean, and the Deans' of each Collage.

Information Technology Systems Down at UVA

The University of Virginia announced Friday, August 14 that it is responding to a cyber attack on portions of its information technology systems. A system security upgrade that has disabled user access to many systems — including email — began at 5 PM EST on Friday, August 14 and is anticipated to be completed by the evening of Sunday, August 16.

When the upgrade is finished and systems come back online, all users will need to change their Eservices passwords.
